Paul Jurgens Foundation Awards
Humanitarian Scholarship for 2004

June 2004
Meghan Murphy, a graduating senior at Division Avenue High School, Levittown, NY, Class of 2004, was the recipient of the 2004 Paul Jurgens Humanitarian Scholarship for 2004. Meghan plans to attend Siena College in Loudonville, New York and to become a teacher following graduation.
As an indication of her fine attitude and willingness to serve her community, Meghan chose Siena College because of its community service programs. At College, she plans to participate in tutoring, cooking in soup kitchens and collecting clothing for the needy. She will also have the opportunity to work for Habitat for Humanity.
While Meghan was in high school, she was a volunteer at Ronald McDonald House where she cooked dinner for the families who were staying there. She is actively involved in raising money for cancer research. During her school day, she helps with a physical education program, which assists the kids who are challenged physically or mentally.
Meghan is president of the Division Avenue High school's chapter of The National Honor Society. During the school year, she led a program where over 100 used books were collected and delivered to sick children in hospitals at Christmas time.
It is clear that Meghan’s attitude is that being nice is not something that should be planned or should receive special recognition. It should just be something that comes naturally. Meghan said " I feel that helping others is the only way for me to truly show how thankful I am for all the blessings in my life"
Meghan's Mother is a nurse. Meghan's Father is a sergeant with the NYPD and her uncle is with the FDNY. Both men were on duty at the World Trade Center on 9/11.
Meghan is highly deserving of this scholarship and as were previous awardees, lives her life in a manner that should be emulated by others. Paul Jurgens would have been proud to know her and he would be happy for Meghan to receive this award.
